Eyebrow Transplant: What You Should Know

What is an eyebrow transplant?
An eyebrow transplant augments the shape and fullness of your brows by transferring hair follicles from another area of your body—usually, the back of your scalp. It’s a long-lasting solution for thin or absent eyebrows.

Depending on your needs, eyebrow transplants can reshape or re-create your brows, Beverly Hills, California, hair transplant surgeon. If done correctly, “eyebrow hair transplants can be amazingly successful and look perfectly natural, for both men and women.”

“It’s very important to find a hair restoration doctor who has experience in eyebrow transplant surgery, not just experience with balding men,” says Los Angeles hair restoration surgeon. He explains that the surgeon must have artistic skills, in additional to the fundamental technical skills associated with hair transplants. “The surgeon must be familiar with women's and men's eyebrows. My personal opinion is that they shouldn’t use a template.”

When you’re researching possible doctors, look for board-certified hair restoration surgeons and look at before and after photos from real patients. Dr. Swaroop Singh Gambhir recommends selecting a surgeon who performs all the different methods of hair replacement procedures so that their opinions and/or recommendations aren’t biased.

What are the pros and cons of eyebrow transplant?
Pros

  • You’ll see an increase in eyebrow density, in a shape custom-designed for your face. Because it’s your own hair and the shape is decided upon by you and your surgeon, the result is much more natural-looking than what you can create with microblading or makeup.

  • It can cover up scars and correct irregularities of the brows.

  • The results are considered permanent, as long as the donor hair is healthy.

Cons

  • You may not end up with the perfect angle of hair. The transplanted brow hairs may angle up and out.

  • Prepare to invest some time trimming your new brows. Because hair from your head grows faster and longer than eyebrow hair, you’ll spend some time snipping off strands that become unruly.  The transplanted hair will keep growing like scalp hair.

  • Transplanted hairs may not match the eyebrow hair.

  • There will be tiny gaps you may notice, since 100% of the transplanted hairs do not grow out. One or two hairs out of place may be very noticeable, if you are staring at it.

  • Thicker, fuller eyebrows may require more than one surgery.

  • It’s a big investment—far more expensive than alternatives like microblading.
