Although a fairly new procedure, eyelash implants are rapidly growing in popularity.
Originally developed to treat parts of the eyelid that did not have eyelids due to trauma, genetics, or alopecia, this procedure is also commonly used to enhance the appearance of existing eyelids.

If eyelash damage occurs, it may be temporary. After six to twelve months, eyelash growth should return to some extent. If eyelash damage is permanent, eyelash implants can be used to replace lost eyelids.

An Eyelash Hair Transplant Surgery works like a hair or beard transplant. The donor's hair is taken from the back of the skull, then inserted into the eyelid via FUT strip surgery.

The donor's hair should be carefully selected and taken from the margin on the backside of the skull. This is where the hair more closely resembles the hair of the eyelids

In some cases, hair may be taken with the feet or hands, but this will involve an FUE technique and the hair will usually be shorter.

They look longer than the hair from the back of the scalp, but the procedure is quite difficult to perform.

Standard FUT strip surgery takes hairs from the scalp that are about 4-5 cm long. A stereomycroscopic magnification is used to dissect the hair follicles, leaving the hair shaft completely intact. The shaft is threaded through a surgical needle, ready to be inserted into the eyelid.

It is worth noting that the eyelids will be implanted in the upper eyelid only.

Unlike hair and beard implants, following the care instructions are something important that you need to follow completely.

First, since the hair is taken from the scalp, they will continue to grow over time. This means, you will need to trim them repeatedly to ensure that they are not growing too long. This may need to be done on a weekly or even more frequent basis. You will also need to be trained to curl the eyelids. If you do not, the hair may begin to curl downward into the eye, possibly causing damage to the cornea.

The surgeon can suggest the best way to train you to curl the eyelids upward, followed by any other instructions you follow. It is important to book a consultation before determining whether it is right for you. Eyelash transplant may not be suitable for everyone, so you must first establish if you are an ideal candidate for the procedure.
